The Kangaroo Hoppet is Australia's largest and best known cross country ski race, held at Falls Creek on the fourth Saturday of August. The Kangaroo Hoppet is a citizen race, which means anyone can enter. It consists of three separate events - 42km, 21km and 7km. To coincide with the Kangaroo Hoppet, we have booked accommodation at Snow View Units in Tawonga South.  (You will need to pre-purchase entry into Falls Creek Resort online before arriving or book the bus for race participants).

Of course, the main activity for this weekend is racing in the Kangaroo Hoppet. Some members also volunteer to work on the drink stations set up for the race participants. Many of the Falls Creek trails are cordoned off for the race on Saturday, so general tours of the cross country trails is limited.

This year (2026) we are staying at Snow View Holiday Units (106 Simmonds Creek Road, Tawonga South). Check in 3 PM and check out 10 AM. You need to carry wheel chains and a snow shovel in your car.  

From Snow View, it is a 36km (1 hour) drive to Falls Creek Resort.  You need to pre-purchase entry to Falls Creek online and print your entry ticket for display on your windscreen. Alternatively race participants may book the ‘Race Bus’ for Saturday entry.

At Snow View, there is a fully equipped kitchen. You need to bring your own food and your own toiletries.  Linen and towels are provided.

There is an outdoor hot tub with mountain views (for the price of a gold coin).
