Telemarking

There's a small but growing group of us who are keenly developing our downhill telemarking skills.

Peter and John's backcountry snow camping trips have been a great opportunity to practice our skills.

Some of us have even been practising on the resort lifts.

We generally have 2 or 3 overnight snow camps each year - at least one early in the season, and one towards the end of the ski season, in the Spring.

Depending on the snow conditions and weather, we'll do a bit of day touring, and spend a bit of time playing on backcountry slopes such as Mt Nelse.

One of these trips is usually based in Johnsons Hut, near Mt Nelse.
For all activities group members must be competent off track skiers of intermediate standard or better. The skiing requires off track skis (i.e. not light touring skis/boots).

For harder activities, skiers must have some snow camping experience, ideally for more than one weekend.

Skiers should have a suitable sleeping bag, personal clothing, backpack etc and also have or organised to share a snow tent, and stove.
