Melbourne Nordic is again involved in the running of that long-standing ski event - The Stirling Silver. This year's event is being held on Mt Stirling (of course) in August.

Past events have featured courses that have perhaps been a bit challenging for some. This year's course (as was last year's) is designed to be suited to the "citizen or tourer skier" whether the snow conditions are icy or softer.

Melbourne Nordic are seeking participants in two categories:

bullet Race participants - the Stirling Silver is exactly two weeks before the Hoppet and whether you are a Joey Hoppet skier, Birkie or full Hoppet, the choice of 5, 10 or 15 km courses gives you the perfect warm up for the Hoppet.

Failing that, if you just wish to have a nice tour around some of Mt Stirling's Alpine Ash ski trails in a very safe environment, or come to Stirling again because you have been away too long - then this is your day!! Last year our competitors ranged from ex Australian ski team members to children.

bullet Volunteers - as co-organisers of the race we are seeking volunteers to help with the running of the race. Tasks include staffing the race office (taking entries and filling a few forms), staffing the drink station and helping with the after race BBQ.

In either capacity an interesting day will be had. The Mt Stirling resort at TBJ (Telephone Box Junction) is probably the most picturesque Cross Country trail head in Australia with easy access to trails, fantastic bistro and all facilities (incl ski hire).

In addition to the post event BBQ, a MNSC dinner is planned in Mansfield on Saturday night.
